Latest Yuma Population Numbers Released


Despite rugged economic times, the City of Yuma grew between July 2008 and July 2009, according to statistics released by the Arizona Deparment of Commerce.

The City of Yuma’s population is now 94,361, up from 93,719 on July 1, 2008.  The City of Yuma population was 77,515 on July 1, 2000.  The City’s population is estimated to be 119,497 in the year 2020.

Other population estimates include San Luis at 27,629, Somerton at 11,713, Wellton at 2,363, the unincorporated areas around Yuma, including the Foothills, at 69,874.  The total population of Yuma County is now listed at  205,940.  The estimated July 2009 population of the State of Arizona is 6,683,129.

Other important population numbers in Arizona:  Flagstaff’s population is now estimated to be 66,522, Tucson at 543,566 and Phoenix at 1,575,423.

The City of Yuma now encompasses 119.82 square miles, compared to 37.7 in 1999.  55.1% of our population is under the age of 35 and 68.7% of Yuma’s population is under age 45.  Only 13.9% of our population is over age 65, contrary to popular belief.  46% of our population is of Hispanic origin.

In 2008, our median family income was $45,611, compared to $39,693 in 2000.  2009 estimates showed 34,475 dwelling units within the City limits.  The median home value in 2000 was $85,300 and increased to $165,700 for owner-occupied homes in 2008.
